As in two words that cannot logically be connected?
Popular: suited to or intended for the general masses of people: popular music. Punk: form of hard-driving rock 'n' roll originating in the 1970s, characterized by harsh lyrics attacking conventional society and popular culture, and often expressing alienation and anger. ATTACKING conventional society... i.e. .... the Popular. Which would explain why "pop-punk" sucks. Anyhow....Music Question: What IS your favorite Punk Rock Song? Mine would be a tie between the Ramones "SpiderMan" or Rollins "Liar". *Mind you..I don't care if you listen to and like FoB and the like...you choice. Just PLEASE don't insist on calling it PUNK... cause it ain't. *Jake...got a link for me? Por Favor? |

Should Pop Punk even be a genre? I think it should be filed under S*it.
My favorite Punk song has to be Anarchy in the UK! |

No. Punk and Pop Punk are two different genres
Pop Punk has more catchy hooks. Take a look at the Buzzcocks and the Descendents for a bit. They are Pop Punk. Edit: Merican' by The Descendents http://youtube.com/watch?v=bh4NlJQhG4E Ever Fallen in Love by the Buzzcocks http://youtube.com/watch?v=Bif2q_Zo3-4 MQ: Police Truck by Dead Kennedy's |

yes, pop-punk is an oxymoron like christian metal
but I'm sure punk rockers are popular with their fans that may be the only time you can use those words in a sentence I always liked "Sheena is a Punk Rocker" by the Ramones others include Bauhaus's cover of Ziggy Stardust and Rock the Casbah by The Clash |

I think the moron part is correct. Punk always had a social and political tone to it. Punk alway had something to say that even if you disagreed with the point, you respected the message. Holiday in the Sun, Anarchy in the UK, God Save the Queen, London Calling, Pull My STrings, Blank Generation, and others had something to say. Now its all about image and record sales. And any of the "punk-pop" that get political now, its just for sales. Before Green Day's "American Idiot" album, their songs consisted of masturbation and getting high. Not that I am against either, but its not a meaninful message.
Fav: Pull My Strings - The Dead Kennedys or Violent Passifacation - DRI(BTW Slayer does a great cover of this song) |

Yeah..it makes NO sense what so ever. Punk, unfortunately, has been sold out for a long time though. Of course there are exceptions..but as a movement..as a whole...it has been sold out for years.
Luckily there are still some purists. Favs: Institutionalized - Suicidal Tendencies or Punk Rock Girl - Dead Milkmen |

Yes, it is an oxymoron. If I had a nickel for every time I answered this question, that Maserati would be mine by now.

I agree, total oxymoron.
Theres a banda called oxymoron, or the oxymorons, I don't remember, I've never heard any of their music. Fav 'punk' song (right now, it'll be different in a week) "Fu(k religion, Fu(k politics, Fu(k the lot of ya" by Chaotic Dischord |

I agree. I never cared for bands like Simple Plan and Good Charollete. I never liked their music. Pop Punk sounds more Emo than Punk.

I disagree, although no one likes to admit it, pop/punk IS a subgenre of Punk, it's the fusion of punk and pop music. I personally really like it, and if you really listen it DOES contain some elements of punk, for example many pop/punk songs feature repetitive palm-muted power chords.
Favorite punk rock song- My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down- Ramones, Problems- Sex Pistols, or Chump- Green Day |
